Shiawase Kanako no Koroshiya Seikatsu, published in English as Happy Kanako's Killer Life, is getting a TV anime that premieres in Japan in April 2027, the spring season. The official website launched with a teaser visual, a teaser video, and the main cast and staff.

Who's making it

  • Director and scriptwriter: Shinji Takamatsu, a comedy veteran known for Gintama, Grand Blue and Kochikame.
  • Character design and chief animation director: Yoshiyuki Ookubo.
  • Studio: Drive, which animated KonoSuba season 3.
  • Kanako Nishino: Hana Tamegai. Sakurai, her grumpy senior: Ryouta Suzuki (Kaguya-sama: Love Is War). The company president: Junichi Suwabe (Jujutsu Kaisen).

What it's about

Kanako is burned out by a so-called “black company,” the Japanese term for an exploitative employer, so she quits to look for something better. Her new job offers a 600,000-yen starting salary, weekends off and full benefits. The catch: it's an assassins' organization. The comedy comes from the contrast between the dream workplace and the bloody work, plus the animal puns Kanako can't stop making.

Toshiya Wakabayashi's manga started in 2019, went viral on Japanese social media and now has 9 volumes from publisher Seikaisha and more than 1.2 million copies in circulation, according to the official site. It has already been adapted into a live-action drama in Japan starring Non and Taisuke Fujigaya (Kis-My-Ft2). Seven Seas Entertainment publishes the manga in English.

There's no word yet on where the anime will stream outside Japan. Crunchyroll covered the announcement on its news site, but that does not confirm a streaming deal; we'll update this story once a platform is official.
