Anime is not a genre. It is a form of animation that covers action, romance, horror, comedy, science fiction and adult drama. The best entry point is the one that speaks to what you already watch.

Four doors

  1. If you like films

Start with Studio Ghibli. Spirited Away, from 2001, is a complete adventure in just over two hours.

  2. If you like adventure series

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, from 2009, has a closed story, memorable characters and an ending that ties everything together.

  3. If you like style and music

Cowboy Bebop, from 1998, mixes western, science fiction and jazz in almost standalone episodes.

  4. If you want something recent and contemplative

Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, from 2023, follows what comes after the adventure is over.

Subbed or dubbed

Both are legitimate ways to watch. Many titles have carefully made dubs. Pick whichever is more comfortable for you and switch whenever you like.
