Animation studios: why the name in the credits matters
Two adaptations of the same work can look like different works. The team explains the difference.

Fans often link an anime's quality to its studio. The studio matters, but the team behind each project matters even more: the same studio can deliver very different work depending on who is in charge.
Who decides what
- Series director: sets the tone, pacing and overall vision.
- Series composition: organizes how the original work becomes episodes.
- Character design: adapts the original art style for animation.
- Animation direction: keeps the drawings consistent in each episode.
Many episodes are partly made by partner studios. Tight deadlines show up on screen as drops in quality, which is why delays are sometimes good news.
